Just when we thought our favorite airlines couldn't get any better, Virgin America goes ahead and partners with Spotify to give customers free music streaming as part of their "ViaStat Program" which also includes Netflix, something we discussed earlier this month. True, now business class flights are primed to be even more enjoyable than they already were, but so are coach / economy. The fact of the matter is, with Virgin, whether you're taking a business class flight or a regular flight via coach or economy, the service is what truly makes the difference.
But let's talk a little bit more about this new partnership. The program will allegedly be able to offer 12 megabits per second (Mbps) to each seat. Which is certainly faster than my comcast connection sometimes. To quote virgin regarding the partnership and its details:
"Spotify users can now pump your favorite tunes for free, at 35,000 feet through March 2, 2016 with ViaSat. Our newest flights sporting ViaSat in-flight internet now have enhanced, high quality music streaming onboard, so you’ll never miss a beat."
What I'd say is even cooler is that the two companies have gone ahead and curated special playlists for each city that Virgin America operates in. Everyone will have access to these playlists by the way, not just those on business class flights.
