Ryanair Plans Low-Cost Business Class Airfares Starting at $15 Flights To Europe!

Are you dreaming of a European vacation? Then the latest news will definitely turn your head. Europe's biggest low-cost carrier Ryanair (RYAOF) is planning on launching cheap Transatlantic flights by the year 2020.

The airline is currently in talks with manufacturers over securing a long-haul fleet. So far they have approached Boeing (BA) and Airbus (EADSF). If they are able to secure these aircrafts on time, Ryanair plans to begin operating their "budget flights" to Europe from over 14-cities in the U.S.. They expect to have some of the cheapest business class fares on these flights out of any other competing airline.

Ryanair's head of communication Robin Kiely says, "European travelers are looking for lower cost trips to the USA while the Americans are also looking for such flights to Europe." and  "We see our latest approach as a logical development in the European market."

Airfare for business class are expected to go on sale as low as £10 ($15). But passengers should not get too excited over the rock bottom prices since they will end up paying much more than that eventually. Passenger taxes alone add about $200 on a flight to the U.S. from the U.K. There are also other extras charged by the airline such as fees for baggage or reserving a seat.

Similar to most of the other budget carriers, Ryanair generates profits by charging passengers for services that are not included in the ticket price. Irish airlines has been long targeting the U.S. market, but it is not the first to enter the fray since Norwegian Air launched their budget services in May this year. Last month, La Compagnie (a French airline) revealed plans for cheap business flights from New York to London. Their price is as low as $2,200 which undercuts some major airlines such as American Airlines (AAL) and Air France (AFLYY) by more than half.

The only caveat with all this is that there were so many airlines that tried this route and failed in the past. Three major operators such as EOS Airlines, Silverjet and MAX Jet collapsed in 2008. L'Avion was the fourth that failed at attempting this "low-cost business fare" model. They were later sold to British Airways. Arguably, this could also have been to due the fact that the american economy collapsed in 2008 and there wasn't hardly any innovation going on in any industry at that time.
