Qantas And China Eastern To Offer Business Class Deals With ACCC Greenlight

Qantas And China Eastern are set to combine forces with a new partnership that will inevitably bring more business class deals on the flights they offer between China and Australia.

They've signed a five-year partnership that will act as the latest maneuver in Australia's global travel conquest. They already have partnerships with American Airlines and Emirates, meaning Australia is prime to tap into the lucrative and upcoming Chinese market that has a lot of "second tier" hot spots mainly tied into manufacturing.

As of this morning The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has given the greenlight for this partnership, after previously blocking it on the grounds that it may constrict, rather than expand the travel options between Australia and China for public travelers.

This block was overturned after Qantas and China Eastern as they reportedly brought forth proposals and evidence declaring that they would add not only more routes between the two countries but up the frequency as well. This would only happen if the alliance was authorized by the Commission.

New Routes And More Flights

What this means is that we'll see a rise in the amount of China Eastern flights over the course of two years during "peak periods." These flights will happen between Shanghai and Sydney, Cairns, and Melbourne. Right now China Eastern is mostly interested in increasing the frequency of flights between Shanghai-Sydney and Shanghai-Melbourne during the summer months of September-February. Operations will increase to twice a day.

Currently, Qantas' only flight to mainland China is the daily Airbus A330-300 flight from Sydney to Shanghai. This departs about one hour before the China Eastern A330-200s along the exact same route.

Although there is no confirmation on what the route will be, the business class deals to Shanghai are reported to be originating in Brisbane. Right now, however, only the ACCC knows the details. This would be a year-round, daily route.

So if you're looking to get the info on how  you can take advantage of these new business class deals that will come as a result of this partnership; then you're going to want to talk to one of our flight agents today.
