With Bids From Alaska Air And Jet Blue
Bids are ongoing for Virgin America, with offers coming from Alsaska Air and Jet Blue. All three airlines politely declined to comment. Between now and then, some other offers may come to the table. This could bring a movement of consolidation of the airline industry. Between 2008 and 2013, eight domestic carriers merged into four and now got a hold of more than 80% of the U.S. domestic market. The mega-four being, American Airlines, Delta, United and Southwest, respectively. Although the information is kept private, the results of the offers will be in sometime next week. Either way, fewer airline choices creates less competition in the industry, causing the fare prices to go up for the consumers.
