Airplane Etiquette
Whether in Business Class or Economy, the flying experience can be stressful for most of us. From the rigors of airport security, finding the gate, to obnoxious passenger behavior on board, we’ve all been there at some point. In order to make the flight experience go as smoothly as possible, it takes the cooperation of all passengers to be mindful of others. Please see our list of airplane etiquette tips to review before your next flight.
1. Be prepared for security
After hauling behind the long TSA line, it is finally your turn to go through security screening. Empty your pockets, take off your shoes and belt, take off your jacket and put it in a bin. Even if it is not required at all stalls, put your laptop into a separate bin to speed up the process.
2. Don’t take over the overhead bin
Don’t be the guy who hogs the overhead compartment. With the check-in bag fees going through the roof, people are more likely to carry on more stuff. Be mindful please, and stow smaller items under the seat in front of you.
3. Seat etiquette
Don’t be the guy who jumps and jitters in your seat excessively. This one is particularly annoying. Also, when reclining your seat, do so slowly. The passenger behind you may need time to readjust his tray table and hang on to his drink. It will also be helpful to keep your seat up right during meals.
4. Kids
Being a parent myself, I can tell you that flying with kids is exhausting. If you can avoid it or have the luxury to travel without small children, by all means do so! Nevertheless, for some parents, flying with kids is a must. Make an effort to keep your kids calm. If that means unlimited cartoons and game apps during the flight, this would be a perfect time to take out your tablet. For those who have to endure witnessing someone traveling with a child, keep in mind that it is even more stressful for the parents than you, and they are doing their best.
5. Don’t get wasted
If you must sip on some wine to get a hold of your nerves, I’m with you. But don’t be the guy who gets drunk on the plane. You will stench of alcohol, annoy those around you, perhaps get obnoxious and will need to occupy the bathroom for longer than necessary.
