The largest city in Western Australia, Perth is also that state’s capital. Located on the country’s southwest coast, Perth is Australia’s fourth-largest city by population. The city and its surrounding metro area are home to more than 2 million people.

Business class flights to Perth arrive at Perth International Airport (PER), located about 12 miles south of the city in the suburb of Belmont. The airport is the fourth busiest in the country, serving more than 12 million passengers each year. Perth International Airport is a hub for several airlines including Qantas, Virgin Australia, Alliance Airlines, and National Jet Express. Ground transportation from Perth International Airport into the city is available via the city’s commuter rail system, which operates two stations at the airport, Airport Central Station and Redcliff Station.

Some flights to Perth, Australia, may arrive at the city’s secondary airport, Jandakot Airport (JAD), located in the suburb of Jandakot. The general aviation airport, built in the early 1960s, is occasionally used to handle overflow air traffic.

Founded in 1828, Perth was established as a settlement just prior to the Western Australian Gold Rushes during which its population exploded, eventually transforming the small town into a major urban center. Originally called the Swan River Colony, after the city’s river, the city is today named after Perth, Scotland.

Thousands of visitors from around the world book flights to Perth, Australia, each year for business purposes as well as for leisure travel. The city is home to a number of cultural and historical attractions including numerous examples of Victorian-era and Edwardian architecture, several museums, multiple performing arts venues, and a variety of parks and other natural open spaces.

Among the city’s most popular sites is the Fremantle Heritage Area, which is home to a large number of historic buildings. These include the Round House, a circular brick structure, built in 1830, which is said to be the first building ever erected in the city. Also located in Freemantle is the Old Mill, a restored windmill built in the 1830s that serves as Perth’s unofficial city symbol.

The Forrest Place pedestrian mall is also popular with tourists who book first class flights to Perth, Australia. Located in the city’s Central Business District, Forrest Place is home to several restaurants, shops, and cafes and often hosts cultural events such as concerts.

One of Perth’s more unusual structures is its DNA Tower. Located in the city’s Kings Park, the tower features a 50-foot-tall double helix-shaped staircase that resembles a molecule of DNA.

Just outside the city of Perth are three Australian national parks: Avon Valley, John Forrest National Park, and Yanchep. Each of these parks preserves thousands of acres of pristine Australian bushland. Within Perth’s metropolitan area, just north of the city, Whiteman Park also preserves nearly a thousand acres of natural bushland. Whiteman Park offers visitors miles of hiking and bicycle trails, sports playing fields, children’s play areas, and the Caversham Wildlife Park. Caversham is home to a number of Australia’s native animal species including kangaroos, koala bears, wallabies, and wombats.

Some of Australia’s native wildlife can also be viewed at the Aquarium of Western Australia, located in the suburb of Hillarys. The largest aquarium in the country, it is home to fish, sharks, and other marine animals that are native to Western Australia.

Visitors interested in viewing whales, dolphins, and other sea life in their natural habitat can visit Sunset Coast, north of the city. A protected natural area, Sunset Coast is home to the Marmion Marine Park, which provides a sanctuary for Australian sea lions, tropical fish, corals, humpback whales, and bottlenose dolphins in a natural setting.

Students from across Australia often book cheap flights to Perth to attend university in the city. Perth is home to four public universities and the private University of Notre Dame Australia. The city’s public institutions include the University of Western Australia; Curtin University, Perth’s largest university by enrollment; Murdoch University, and Edith Cowan University.
