Virgin Australia just announced 4 different business class deals/upgrades for around $830. Three of these flights are also in Virgin's latest Airbus A330. Under SPG's new promotion, buying Starpoints will net not one but two bonuses: the first being a boost of 20% more Starpoints, and the second an additional 5,000 points for every 20,000 Starpoints transferred to an airline of your choosing, such as Virgin Australia.

Hypothetically, if you bought  20,000 Starpoints, with the 20% bonus of 4,000 Starpoints you'd have a subtotal of 24,000 Starpoints, and can even convert those into Velocity points – which will get you an extra 5,000 points bringing you to a nice 29,000 Starpoints with Velocity. These Velocity points can be used to save you thousands of dollars on business class flights on Virgin Australia.

As with any great deal, there are going to be hurdles to navigate. The fixed 5,000-point boost for transfers of 20,000 Starpoints or more is a permanent fixture of the Starwood program. You'll need to have been an SPG member for at least 14 days before you can buy Starpoints – so if you haven't already signed up to Starwood Preferred Guest,  unfortunately you're not eligible this time around, so do yourself a favor and create a free account now to take advantage of Starwood promotions that happen in the future.

Starwood's annual 20,000-point cap on buying Starpoints is being temporarily lifted to 24,000 points under this specific deal (this includes bonuses), and it typically takes at least 24-hours for purchased points to appear in SPG – and then up to an additional week more to arrive in your Velocity account once you've requested the transfer.  One last thing, upgrades from economy to business class may not be available on every Virgin Australia flight, so make sure there's a way to use your Velocity points at a date and time convenient to you before you take advantage of these business class deals from Starwood.
