Flights to Sintra, Portugal, arrive at Humberto Delgado International Airport (LIS) in Lisbon. Because Sintra is located within Lisbon’s greater metro area, travelers who fly to Sintra will find ground transportation from the airport is available via Lisbon’s extensive commuter rail system. The trip from Humberto Delgado International Airport to Sintra by train takes about 45 minutes. Ground transport from the airport into Sintra is also available by bus.

Though destroyed in a subsequent earthquake, Pena National Park was home to a monastery and later a grand palace constructed by King Ferdinand II, who used his obsession with arts and cultures to design a beautiful visage to inspire and wow visitors. To this day, the Pena National Palace offers scenic views and amazing tours. Visitors who fly to Sintra can explore its beautiful halls and nearby chalet, which King Ferdinand II had constructed for his countess. The surrounding Pena National Park is also worth exploring, serving as home to historic gardens and landscaping.

Not too far from the Pena National Palace is the Moorish Castle, which was built in the 10th century when the Moors occupied the region. This hill-top castle offers stunning views and a stroll around its expansive walls and grounds. Visitors can also see a Christian necropolis that was built over the remains of the Muslim neighborhood two centuries after the Moors occupied the peninsula.
