Wroclaw’s largest university, the University of Wroclaw, is considered to be one of the best in Eastern Europe. Several Nobel Prize laureates are among its alumni. The University of Wroclaw was founded in 1945, after the Second World War, when the city of Wroclaw, formerly named Breslau, was returned to Poland by Germany.

Other universities in Wroclaw include the Wroclaw University of Technology; the Wroclaw University of Economics; Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences; the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts; the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw; and the Wroclaw Medical University.

Many of the people who fly to Wroclaw are tourists. The city is home to a number of historic sites and cultural attractions. Its medieval era Market Square dates back to the early 13th century and is among the largest of its kind in Europe. The square serves as the heart of the city’s Old Town. Wroclaw’s Market Square is a pedestrian zone that is home to the Old City Hall, built in the 13th century, and several other examples of historic architecture including Saint Elisabeth’s Church, one of Wroclaw’s most recognizable buildings. The church was built in the 14th century and was restored after the Second World War after the building sustained a great deal of damage from bombing. The Market Square is also home to many shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Visitors who fly to Wroclaw are also encouraged to visit some of the city’s other historic neighborhoods. These include Cathedral Island, which lies in the middle of the Oder River and is connected to the main part of the city by bridges.

Wroclaw’s Centennial Hall, which was built in the early 20th century when the city was still part of Germany, is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The large arena is still used to host concerts, sporting events, and conventions.

Other popular things to do in Wroclaw include visiting the Wroclaw Zoological Garden, which is located in the heart of the city. Poland’s oldest and largest zoo, the Wroclaw Zoo opened in 1865 and today is one of the most visited zoos in Europe.
