Since the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, Croatia has become a highly developed country. Business-class flights to Croatia are often booked by corporate travelers who work in the wine industry, as the country has long been a producer of fine wines that are just now beginning to make their way into the global market. Wine enthusiasts, as well, have started booking cheap flights to Croatia in order to expand their palate and experience these fine wines first.

Other important industries in Croatia include shipbuilding; information technology and software; pharmaceutical research and manufacturing; and various types of heavy industry including the manufacture of automobiles, aircraft, and train cars.

Flights to Croatia are also popular with tourists, as tourism is also a major contributor to the country’s economy. Many of the people who book flights to Croatia come to the country to vacation at the beach resorts on its Adriatic coast. The coastal city of Dubrovnik is also popular with visitors. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik is home to a historic seaport and several well-preserved medieval buildings, many of which are in its old town.

First-class flights to Croatia can be booked to arrive at one of the country’s seven international airports. These include Dubrovnik International Airport (DBV); Osijek International Airport (OSI); Pula International Airport (PUY); Rijeka International Airport (RJK); Split International Airport (SPU); Zadar International Airport (ZAD); and Zagreb Franjo Tudman International Airport (ZAG).

Croatia’s capital city, Zagreb, is a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers. Located on the Sava River, the city is in the northern part of the country bordering on Slovenia. Zagreb is the country’s largest city, with a population of approximately 800,000 people living in the city proper, and just over 1 million people living in Zagreb’s greater metro area.

More than 1 million tourists from other parts of Europe and Asia book flights to Croatia each year to visit Zagreb. The city is known for its well-preserved historic architecture, museums, performing arts venues, and for its festive annual Christmas market.

Croatia is a highly literate country where education is considered a priority by most people. Many of the travelers who book cheap flights to Croatia are students who come to the country to study at one of its ten universities. The largest and most well-known of Croatia’s universities is the University of Zagreb, which was founded in 1669. It is the oldest continually operating university in Eastern Europe south of Vienna, Austria, which makes it both a tourist destination and a place of higher learning.

The official language of Croatia is Croatian, which is also spoken in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Montenegro. Several other languages are also used in Croatia due to its close proximity to many other countries and the large number of ethnic groups living in the region. These languages include Czech, Hungarian, Italian, Serbian, Slovak, Albanian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, German, Hebrew, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Polish, Romanian, Romani, Russian, Slovene, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Many Croatians also speak English as a second language, especially those who work in international business and in the tourism industry.
