International flights to Kazakhstan are most often booked to arrive at either Astana International Airport (NQZ) or Almaty International Airport (ALA). Depending on their final destination, passengers can also fly to Kazakhstan’s two other international airports, Shymkent International Airport (CIT), located in the city of Shymkent, and Atyrau International Airport (GUW), just north of the city of Atyrau. Flights to Kazakhstan from the U.S. can be booked to arrive at any of these airports.

People flying during the winter months might be able to book cheap flights to Kazakhstan depending on which city they are traveling to.

Many of the passengers who book tickets to Kazakhstan are business travelers. The country is home to an active petroleum industry, producing crude oil, natural gas, and minerals. Gasoline and heating oil are produced at its refineries. Another industry that plays a major role in Kazakhstan’s economy is mining. Active mines in Kazakhstan include those producing copper, zinc, coal, iron, chromium, gold, and diamonds.

In spite of its heavy industry, Kazakhstan is also home to ten national parks and several nature reserves. The country is known for its wildlife and natural beauty as it is home to several species of endangered mammals, birds, and plants. These natural areas are often destinations for tourists who fly to Kazakhstan. Charyn Canyon National Park, for example, is considered a natural marvel and often a prime spot for tourists who fly to Kazakhstan.

Located about 125 miles outside of Almaty, the Charyn Canyon National Park is a drive for many tourists, but it’s a geological and natural wonder worth the visit. Often compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States, this giant ravine has a similar rocky sediment and formations surrounding the Charyn River, which runs through the nature park.

Another popular natural destination for tourists who book flights to Kazakhstan is the Altyn-Emel National Park. This national park is home to a great swath of desert near Lake Kapchagai. Of note, it’s also home to the Besshatyr Burial Ground, which dates back to the Iron Age and includes the burial grounds of nomadic tribes. The Singing Dunes are another iconic location within the national park. They get their name from the sound that emits from the sand when the winds are blowing westward.

Kazakhstan is also home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These include the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassaui, built in the 14th century and located in the southern city of Turkestan; the Tamgaly Petroglyphs, which date back 3,000 years and are located northwest of Almaty; and the Silk Roads Route of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor, the portion of the ancient Silk Road that passes through Kazakhstan.

This 3,100-mile stretch of the Silk Road was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in part due to a desire to understand the cultural diffusion across Eurasia. As cultures moved around and traded with one another, traditions, innovations, and influences impacted the development of cultures. Along the Silk Roads Route of the Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor are 33 locations between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan that are included as important cultural and heritage sites worth protecting and preserving. These locations include trading settlements, temples, natural landmarks, tombs, fortifications, and more. In Kazakhstan, 8 towns and locations make up the UNESCO World Heritage-recognized portions of the Silk Road.
